Confirmation

Inclusion of a transaction in chain history, or the depth of that inclusion; distinct from platform credit.

Concept and usage

Inclusion of a transaction in chain history, or the depth of that inclusion; distinct from platform credit.[1][2]

In context

Confirmation can describe how a transaction has been included in a block or acknowledged by a network. Thresholds differ by network and service, and an explorer’s status does not necessarily mean the recipient has reconciled the payment.[1][2]

Common confusion

Broadcast, included in a block, accepted at a service threshold and credited to an account are separate states. Networks may use probabilistic confirmation or explicit finality; one confirmation count cannot describe them all.[1][2]

Example

An explorer can show a successful transaction while a recipient waits for more confirmations or checks an additional reference. Review the transaction hash, receiving address and the service’s credit conditions together. Confirmation depth describes a network record; a service may impose separate credit conditions.[1][2]

FoundationCrypto deposits: from wallet to platform ledgerAsset, network and address identify the payment path, sometimes with an additional tag. A token name alone is insufficient. Platform-generated destinations and personal wallet addresses have different purposes; use the current receiving instructions rather than assumptions about a previous transfer.Related contextBlockchain basics: public records and private ledgersA blockchain links records under the rules of its network. Confirmation and consensus mechanisms differ, so one chain does not describe all networks. A public history provides a way to inspect transactions without establishing that all account information is stored on-chain.Deeper analysisPlatform technology: between ledger and screenThe displayed balance is a presentation; the ledger records changes in value. Caching, connectivity and refresh behavior can affect what the screen shows. Display state and transaction state should be distinguished.
